Abstract This article examines the essential role of home literacy environments (HLEs) in shaping early reading, writing, and oral language development. Drawing on current research and classroom vignettes, it explores how everyday routines, storytelling, and culturally grounded practices support foundational literacy skills—including vocabulary, print awareness, and the alphabetic code. The article highlights the value of child-led learning and authentic, family-initiated literacy experiences. By presenting practical, evidence-based strategies that connect home and school, it advocates for literacy practices that affirm families as partners in literacy development and empower all children on their journey to lifelong literacy success.
