Enhancing the Hydrophobic Performance of Epoxy Coatings by Incorporating ZrO₂ Nanoparticles

This study focuses on enhancing the performance of epoxy coatings by incorporating ZrO2 nanoparticles, particularly for hydrophobic applications essential in sectors like automotive and electronics. The investigation employs X-ray Diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy to analyze structural characteristics and chemical compositions of epoxy-ZrO2 coatings. Contact angle measurements assess the hydrophobicity of the coatings, revealing significant improvements with increasing ZrO2 content. Results indicate that higher ZrO2 concentrations lead to enhanced surface roughness and reduced surface energy, thereby increasing water repellency. These findings underscore the efficacy of ZrO2 nanoparticles in modifying epoxy coatings for superior hydrophobic properties, highlighting their potential in advancing technological applications requiring durable and water-resistant surfaces. This study provides valuable insights for optimizing epoxy-ZrO2 coatings in industrial settings demanding robust performance under diverse environmental conditions.
