Strategic alignment of organizational structure based on decisions for sustainable organizational performance: a bibliometric-systematic literature review
This bibliometric-systematic literature review (BSLR) examines the strategic alignment of organizational structure based on decisions (OSbDs), focusing on centralized, decentralized, and AI-driven decisions across the executive, managerial, and operational levels to achieve sustainable organizational performance (SOP). While traditional organizational structures are well-documented, OSbDs remain underexplored. We systematically reviewed literature from 2014 to 2025 across three academic databases (Scopus, Dimension AI, and Google Scholar), analyzing 112 documents for relevance and quality. The findings generated four thematic clusters visualized through VOSviewer Term and Keyword Co-Occurrence Network Analyses and a conceptual framework. The study adheres to PRISMA 2020 guidelines, ensuring transparency. The BSLR provides a comprehensive overview of existing scientific research. The largest cluster (34.15% of 82 documents) focuses on AI and automation, reflecting a research emphasis on operational efficiency, which underscores the impact on SOP. We also outlined a table of future research directions. The findings propose a hybrid decision-making framework that integrates centralized, decentralized, and automated/AI models with strategic alignment. This supports SOP by fostering strategic consistency across organizational levels, offering insights for academics and implications for leaders adapting OSbDs to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and innovation in their organizations.
