Entendiendo el Trastorno de la Inestabilidad Emocional de la Personalidad
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), also known as Emotional Instability Disorder, is characterized by intense instability in the expression and management of emotions, impulsivity, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. This paper describes the diagnosis from the International Diagnostic Classification Manuals such as the International Classification of Diseases ICD-10 (World Health Organization [WHO], 1993), the Clinical Descriptions and Diagnostic Requirements for ICD-11 (World Health Organization [WHO], 2018), and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-5 (American Psychological Association [APA], 2013), highlighting incidence and prevalence factors, comorbidity, and its impact on different areas of patients' lives. Additionally, some data on Costa Rica are examined.
