Applying Sustainability Principles to Storage Processes (SDGs)

Objective: The article aims to assess the integration of sustainability principles into warehouse operations. It emphasizes the importance of environmental responsibility and explores how technological innovations contribute to sustainability. The research analyzes the application of sustainability principles to storage processes through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). Method: The research employs a combination of literature review, company documentation analysis, and semi-structured interviews. This mixed-method approach enables a comprehensive understanding of sustainable practices and their implementation within logistics centers. Results and Discussion: Findings reveal that the analysed company has implemented multiple sustainability initiatives-solar energy systems, energy-efficient lighting, electric forklifts, and waste sorting. The EcoVadis evaluation demonstrates above-average sustainability performance but also highlights areas for improvement, especially in ethical standards and sustainable procurement. Planned actions include increasing solar energy usage, switching to recyclable packaging materials, and enhancing energy efficiency. Research Implications: The application of sustainability in warehousing not only reduces environmental impact but also strengthens corporate responsibility and market competitiveness. The article provides practical insights for logistics practitioners aiming to align operations with environmental and societal goals. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the scientific literature by highlighting the sustainability aspects of warehouse operations and providing an innovative approach to the analysis of sustainable logistics. The originality lies in the synthesis of theoretical sources and the analysis of practical examples, enabling the assessment of sustainability principles integration into warehousing activities in Lithuanian logistics centers. The value of the study is based on its practical applicability to improve environmental efficiency in logistics companies, reduce ecological footprint, and enhance logistics strategies in business practice.
