Alimentação natural no manejo da dermatite atópica e obesidade em cadela geriátrica
This article presents the clinical case report of a geriatric female Golden Retriever diagnosed with chronic atopic dermatitis and obesity, aiming to analyze the effects of a balanced natural diet as an integrated therapeutic strategy. The methodology was based on the longitudinal observation of the patient's clinical progression over a seven-year period, including documentation of cutaneous manifestations, pharmacological treatments, dietary interventions, and changes following the introduction of the new diet. The research employed a qualitative and descriptive approach, with clinical data analyzed in light of scientific literature on veterinary nutrition, immunology and geriatrics. Initially treated with oclacitinib and a conventional diet, the patient showed only partial symptom control, with recurrent episodes of pruritus, otitis and skin lesions, along with progressive weight gain. Following the transition to a natural diet and replacement of the medication with ilunocitinib, a significant reduction in clinical signs of dermatitis was observed, along with a weight loss of approximately six kg, improved vitality, and overall clinical stability. The findings suggest that a natural diet may contribute to immunological and metabolic regulation in elderly dogs with chronic comorbidities when included as part of a personalized and closely monitored therapeutic plan.
