Optimization of Drainage Network Operation Based on Hydraulic Drainage Models

The accelerating pace of urbanization and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events due to climate change have underscored the critical importance of efficient and resilient urban drainage systems. Hydraulic drainage models serve as fundamental computational tools for simulating flow dynamics, optimizing system design, and enhancing the operational performance of drainage networks. This paper examines the integration of hydraulic drainage modeling with advanced optimization algorithms to improve the operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of urban drainage infrastructure. By reviewing current methodologies—including real-time control strategies, multi-objective optimization, and data-driven simulation—this study demonstrates how model-based optimization can reduce energy consumption, mitigate flood risks, minimize operational costs, and enhance adaptive capacity. The findings highlight the potential of combining hydraulic models with intelligent algorithms to support decision-making and promote the development of smart, sustainable drainage networks.
