ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND FOREST FIRE PREVENTION IN ENERGY TRANSMISSION NETWORKS

This article explores the importance of environmental education in the prevention of forest fires, especially in areas under the influence of electric power transmission networks. Through a literature review, the study highlights how educational actions aimed at local communities, managers, and operators of the electrical system can reduce the risk factors associated with fires and strengthen the resilience of transmission systems. Statistical data show that in 2017, 21.3% of transmission line outages in Brazil were caused by forest fires. The highest incidence of fires occurs in the Northeast, Southeast, and Central-West regions of Brazil, in areas dedicated to sugarcane cultivation and in anthropized cerrado areas. Environmental education emerges as a strategic tool in environmental risk management and the promotion of sustainability.
