High temperature performance test and combustion threshold study of vehicle tires
In order to meet the safety control requirements of high-temperature vehicles, the expressway operator has installed infrared temperature measurement devices on the roadside, but inaccurate temperature alarm threshold settings have caused a large number of false alarms. This paper focuses on the current mainstream tire models 225/65R17, 245/55R19, and 8.25R16LT. Firstly, experimental research was conducted on the temperature distribution, hardness, temperature at smoke generation, and combustion threshold of various types of tires using an infrared thermal imager and hardness tester. Subsequently, a tire heating model was established using ANSYS Icepak software for numerical simulation verification, and the numerical results of the experiment and simulation have good consistency. The findings indicate a linear relationship between tire hardness and temperature, and the temperature threshold for tire softening is 110 °C. The temperature at which smoke is generated on the interior side of the tire ranges from 160-180 °C, while the exterior side ranges from 180-230 °C. The combustion threshold for the interior side is 360-420 °C, and for the exterior boundary, it is 470-510 °C. The experimental results can provide a basis for setting different levels of alarm thresholds in vehicle infrared temperature measurement scenarios.
