Green Buildings as a Pathway to Sustainable Urban Development

The rapid pace of urbanization and increasing energy consumption have resulted in significant environmental degradation. The construction sector contributes nearly 40% of total energy consumption and carbon emissions worldwide, making sustainable approaches in building design imperative.Green building offers a framework to minimize environmental harm and improve human well-being.This paper explores the principles, strategies, and benefits of green buildings, focusing on energy efficiency, water conservation, material optimization, and indoor environmental quality.A comparative assessment of conventional and green buildings is presented, followed by discussion of economic feasibility and policy implications. The results emphasize that while initial costs are higher, the long-term benefits in terms of operational savings and environmental sustainability are substantial.
