In vitro anticoagulant and thrombolytic activities of the stem bark of Ficus mucuso Welw. ex Ficalho (Moraceae)

Cerebral Vascular Accidents represent a diagnostic and therapeutic emergency that is difficult to access for populations in sub-Saharan countries. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate the anticoagulant and thrombolytic properties of the stem bark of Ficus mucuso, a plant whose decoct is used in the treatment of post-stroke sequelae in Ivory Coast. In vitro anticoagulant and thrombolytic tests were carried out using fresh blood from albino laboratory rats, Wistar strain. The results and statistical analysis showed that the aqueous (EAq) and ethanolic (EEt) extracts of the stem bark of the plant present, at 0.1 mg/mL, an anticoagulant activity and a thrombolytic potential similar to that of enoxaparin sodium at 200 IU/mL (p > 0.05). In numerical value, EAq presented a lysis percentage of 17.70%, 16.83% for EEt and 16.55% for enoxaparin sodium. The stem bark of F. mucuso therefore has excellent anticoagulant and thrombolytic potential and could serve as a biological support for the implementation of an Improved Traditional Medicine useful in the urgent treatment of victims of Cerebral Vascular Accidents.

The stem bark of F. mucuso therefore has excellent anticoagulant and thrombolytic potential and could serve as a biological support for the implementation of an Improved Traditional Medicine useful in the urgent treatment of victims of Cerebral Vascular Accidents.
