Design of a microcontroller-based smart pet feeding system

As societal economies advance and living standards improve, pets have progressively become integral members of numerous households. However, the accelerated pace of modern life often prevents pet owners from providing constant companionship. Ensuring the safety and well-being of pets during periods of solitude has thus emerged as a pressing concern. This paper details the design of a remote intelligent pet feeding system. The system, centered around an STM32 microcontroller, integrates a Wi-Fi module, an OLED display module, a DS1302 clock module, an SG90 servo motor actuator, a button input module, and an HX711 weight sensor, thereby constructing an intelligent pet feeding solution with features such as scheduled and measured feeding, and remote monitoring. During operation, the main control chip continuously acquires analog signals from the pressure sensor, which, after analog-to-digital conversion, are displayed on the OLED screen to indicate food weight. Simultaneously, real-time time data from the DS1302 clock module are accessed via an I2C interface. Users can flexibly configure feeding times and amounts through either local buttons or a remote mobile app. When the preset time is reached, the microcontroller generates a PWM signal to drive the servo motor, ensuring precise feeding. The operational parameters of the system are displayed in real-time on an OLED screen and simultaneously uploaded to a mobile phone client, enabling remote monitoring capabilities. In comparison to conventional feeding devices, this system innovatively integrates scheduled, quantitative feeding with Wi-Fi based remote control, achieving a feeding precision of ±0.5g and a servo response time of <200ms under load. Empirical testing demonstrates an error rate of <1% across 50 feeding cycles, effectively addressing the issue of untimely feeding due to work commitments or travel, and providing an intelligent solution for modern pet care.
