The surface quality study of quartz ceramic ultrasonic-assisted abrasive polishing
Quartz ceramic is a typical hard and brittle material. It has high hardness and low fracture toughness. Because of its hard and brittle characteristics, defects such as cracks and brittle fractures are easily introduced in grinding. The surface quality of ceramics can be improved by polishing technology. However, traditional polishing methods often struggle to achieve ideal machining results. In this study, the experimental study of ultrasonic-assisted fixed abrasive polishing is carried out. The purpose is to improve the polishing quality of quartz ceramics and reduce the surface roughness. Through the experimental study of ultrasonic-assisted polishing, the surface defects of quartz ceramics before and after processing were compared. The influencing factors between the optimal parameters and the worst parameters are analyzed. The influence of process parameters on surface quality is revealed. The results show that the fractal dimension and surface roughness under the optimal process combination are 2.1121 and 0.1193 μm, respectively. The above experimental research has laid a certain foundation for the process of quartz ceramic surface quality and also provided some references for advanced manufacturing technology and processes.
