High power thermophotovoltaics and thermophotonics

Achieving high power density is just as crucial as attaining high energy conversion efficiency in thermophotovoltaics and related thermophotonics. In this talk, I will present recent advancements in utilizing novel concepts in both the far-field and near-field regimes to enhance optical thermal power conversion to electricity. Particular emphasis will be placed on a recently demonstrated zero-gap TPV system, along with an exploration of its theoretical potential across various thermal energy conversion applications.

Abstract

Achieving high power density is just as crucial as attaining high energy conversion efficiency in thermophotovoltaics and related thermophotonics. In this talk, I will present recent advancements in utilizing novel concepts in both the far-field and near-field regimes to enhance optical thermal power conversion to electricity. Particular emphasis will be placed on a recently demonstrated zero-gap TPV system, along with an exploration of its theoretical potential across various thermal energy conversion applications.
