A PID-based MPPT Control Technique for PV Array under Partial Shading Conditions using HB-AVO Approach

The adoption of Photovoltaic (PV) systems has surged in recent years, primarily due to the decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and the environmental benefits of solar energy. While PV systems function optimally under ideal conditions, their performance in real-world scenarios is affected by various factors, including temperature, irradiance, tilt angle and shading. These factors can lead to the system entering a Partial Shading (PS) state, resulting in multiple power peaks that complicate the identification of the global maximum power point. To address these challenges, this work proposes an innovative Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control strategy for PV systems, utilizing a Honey Badger-inspired African Vulture Optimization (HB-AVO) technique. The primary plan of the research is to develop an MPPT method employing PID parameters to enhance power consumption efficiency and reduce tracking time, thereby mitigating fluctuations caused by partial shading. The effectiveness of this hybrid approach was evaluated through simulations in MATLAB Simulink under varying weather conditions, demonstrating reduced processing time, elimination of oscillations at the maximum power point and improved convergence speed.
