The Effect of Exposure Conditions on Corroded Concrete Using Impact Echo and Resistivity
Concrete is widely used in infrastructure construction due to its moldability, high compressive strength, fire resistance, and durability. However, concrete is vulnerable to factors causing structural performance degradation, particularly steel reinforcement corrosion. This study investigates the effect of exposure conditions on corroded concrete under corrosion conditions using Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods, using impact echo and resistivity. The experimental methodology involved exposing 28-day-old concrete specimens to oven temperatures of 60°C, 120°C, and 180°C, followed by accelerated corrosion testing for 48, 96, and 168 hours. NDT evaluations were conducted before and after the corrosion acceleration process. Results demonstrate that exposure conditions significantly affect the flexural strength of corroded concrete. Flexural strength decreased with increasing temperature and corrosion level. NDT analysis using resistivity and frequency impact-echo methods showed decreased values correlating with increased corrosion levels, confirming the exposure conditions' impact on corroded concrete performance.
