Tradução comentada do teatro de Machado para o espanhol

This article presents a study consisting of a commented translation of Machado de Assis' complete authorial theatre. It outlines the delimitation of the corpus, the steps taken during the translation process and the key parameters adopted for both the translation and the organization of commentaries. An analysis of external factors (Nord 2016) allows us to state the double distance between the source text and the translation, both temporal and cultural, as proposed by Cardellino Soto (2021). The analysis of internal factors highlights contrastive axes between Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish that should be taken into account. Together, these parameters support de development of a translation method that prioritizes the literary values of Machado's work while maintaining its setting in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Some of the challenges involved are illustrated through excerpts from the play Lição de Botânica (1906).
