Bridging the Rural Skills Gap: An Analysis of the Role and Necessity of Rural Engineering Technicians in Sustainable Rural Development (A Feasibility Study in Covering All Districts)
Rural development in faces persistent challenges including limited access to technical expertise, poor infrastructure maintenance, and inadequate vocational training. This study investigates the feasibility and necessity of deploying Rural Engineering Technicians (RETs) to bridge the prevailing rural skills gap. A comprehensive survey was conducted across all districts of Telangana, involving 1,000 respondents including panchayat officials, local entrepreneurs, farmers, and rural youth. The analysis reveals a critical shortfall in on-ground technical support for water resource management, rural road maintenance, renewable energy installations, and agricultural mechanization. Statistical data show that 74% of surveyed villages lack certified technical personnel, leading to delays, cost overruns, and underutilization of government-funded infrastructure projects. Regression and correlation analysis further demonstrate a strong positive relationship between the presence of local technical manpower and indicators of sustainable rural development such as infrastructure reliability, employment generation, and income growth. The findings advocate for policy-driven integration of RETs into local governance systems through targeted skill development programs and public-private partnerships.
