INVESTIGATION ON MULTISLOT PROXIMITY COUPLED FED PATCH ANTENNA FOR WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK APPLICATIONS

This work reports a diamond-shaped three-layer stacked microstrip patch antenna proximity coupled with defected ground structure (DGS) used for wireless local area network applications. The total proposed design dimensions are 15 × 15 × 1.6 mm2. The proposed structure consists of three layers: the lower layer is ground, with two FR-4 substrate materials above it. A diamond-shaped microstrip patch antenna is on the second substrate. Initially, a DGS with a diamond-shaped structure was proposed. Both layers were composed of the FR-4 dielectric material, which has a dielectric constant of 4.3. The proximity feeding technique is used for better impedance matching. Every layer is approximately 1.6 mm thick. For the enhancement of gain and bandwidth, the radius is decreased stage by stage with three iterations. The proposed simulation results were obtained using CSTMW software. Finally, from that, the proposed structure showed a return loss at 5.6 GHz of -49.63 dB, and corresponding gain is 6 dB at a bandwidth of 2.38 GHz. The diamond-shaped microstrip patch antenna's results have been verified using simulation and a network analyzer.
