Optical design and challenges in laser-excited phosphor white light technology
Laser-excited phosphor white light technology is a major advancement in solid-state lighting, offering high luminance, energy efficiency, and compact integration for applications such as automotive headlights and high-brightness displays. However, its optical design presents challenges, including etendue limitations, requiring precise beam shaping and phosphor optimization to ensure uniform illumination. Laser speckle, caused by coherence, affects image quality and demands mitigation strategies like optical diffusers and beam scanning. Additionally, durable phosphor materials and advanced thermal management are crucial for maintaining efficiency and longevity under high-power operation. Future research aims to enhance phosphor performance, reduce speckle effects, and develop novel optical architectures to maximize the potential of laser-based lighting.
