Josephson junctions: topology, geometry, and neuromorphic computing
In planar Josephson junctions (JJs) we experimentally demonstrate topological superconductivity, sought for fault-tolerant quantum computing. Beyond the common picture for these JJs, we reveal an important role of their geometry: as the width of superconductors is varied, there are nontrivial trends in the critical magnetic field for the topological transition or the evolution of the superconducting diode effect. With gate-tunable SOC, the range of potential applications of JJs becomes much broader. The time-dependent SOC offers unexplored mechanisms for switching JJs, accompanied by the 2pi-phase jumps and voltage pulses corresponding to the single-flux-quantum transitions, key to superconducting electronics and neuromorphic computing.
