Highly efficient, electrically tunable, and field resilient diode effects in Josephson junctions utilizing quantum materials
The supercurrent diode effect (SDE) has emerged the past few years as a fascinating topic in superconducting electronics owing to the potential utility of supercurrent diodes in quantum technology, as well as its use in characterizing unconventional superconducting states.. Currently, a diode with favorable performance across many metrics has yet to be identified. We present results on SDE in two different devices: chiral nanotubes-based Josephson junctions, and Al/Cd3As2 superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs). We find chiral nanotubes can enable high diode efficiencies and electric tunability, and the topological nature of Cd3As2 leads to a zero-field SDE that is robust over a bipolar magnetic field range in asymmetric SQUIDs. The work at Sandia is supported by a LDRD project. SNL is managed and operated by NTESS under DOE NNSA contract DE-NA0003525. The work at W&M was funded by the US Department of Energy, Office of Basic Energy Sciences, via Award DE-SC0022245.
