Iron garnets for spintronic applications

Iron garnet thin films exhibit a range of useful behaviors including spin orbit torque switching, domain wall velocities of km/s, magnon-driven domain wall motion, and magnetooptical activity, making them useful in spintronic, magnonic and optical devices. We demonstrate the spintronic applications of these materials, including domain wall translation using spin waves injected from an antenna, spin orbit torque-driven magnetization precession in a film engineered with an out-of-plane easy plane, switchable bistable domain wall chirality, tunable Dyalozhinski-Moriya interactions and low damping in multilayer garnet films, and magnetoelectric garnet-perovskite composites. Finally, we discuss integration of garnet films onto silicon devices via localized crystallization and via film exfoliation and transfer.
