Manipulation of magnetic skyrmions in a three terminal magnetic tunnel junction observed via operando magnetic microscopy
Magnetic skyrmions are topologically stable spin textures with a particle-like behavior. Their topological properties, small size and fast current-induced motion make them interesting candidates for next generation memories or logic devices. An important challenge for skyrmion based application is their electrical detection in tracks using magnetic tunnel junction. Here, we explore the electrical manipulation of magnetic skyrmions in tracks in a 3 terminal MTJ device via operando magnetic microscopy STXM-XMCD. We demonstrate the imprint of skyrmions in the tracks into the MTJ free layer as well as their current induced motion inside and outside the MTJ.
