From Scorpion Sting to Colon Bypass: A Case Report

A bstract Scorpion stings are commonly painful but rarely result in fatal envenomation in Nigeria, with pain and urticaria being frequent outcomes. Scorpion stings, however, are often associated with anxiety and fears of envenomation fueled by local folklore and superstition. The use of unverified traditional remedies, particularly caustic herbal concoctions, can cause severe complications. We report a case of corrosive esophageal stricture following ingestion of a caustic herbal remedy for scorpion sting. This case required an initial feeding gastrostomy and subsequent colon bypass, underscoring the importance of evidence-based management and health education to prevent such complications.
