Osteomalacic myopathy

Osteomalacia is a metabolic bone disorder characterized by progressive softening of bones due to Vitamin D deficiency. Osteomalacic myopathy presents with proximal muscle weakness, bone pain, and muscle spasms. Two cases are described in this case series: Case 1: A 29-year-old female with bilateral thigh pain, difficulty getting up from supine posture, and walking. She had power -4+/5 in bilateral hips and Looser’s zones on pelvic X-ray. Case 2: A 17-year-old female with lateral abdominal pain radiating to the thigh, tightness in limbs, and difficulty getting up from supine posture. She had mild proximal weakness and Looser’s zones on pelvic X-ray. Both patients were treated with calcium and Vitamin D supplementation, showing significant improvement on follow-up. Osteomalacic syndrome is reversible with specific treatment, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.
