Active Diatom Photonic Crystal Frustules with Enhanced Fluorescence Emission

We demonstrated active dye-stained diatom frustules with enhanced fluorescence emission due to the photonic crystal structure. The enhanced intensity and red-shifted emission spectra are attributed to the Purcell effect of diatom photonics crystals.
