High-Q diamond bulk acoustic wave resonators for spin-phonon coupling

We demonstrate high-overtone bulk acoustic wave resonators (HBARs) in diamond with an integrated piezoelectric transducer and quality factors of over 5 × 10 5 . Optimized phononic modes could allow for the demonstration of SiV-phonon coupling through modulation of the SiV’s optical transitions or direct coupling to its spin degree of freedom.

Abstract

We demonstrate high-overtone bulk acoustic wave resonators (HBARs) in diamond with an integrated piezoelectric transducer and quality factors of over 5 × 10 5 . Optimized phononic modes could allow for the demonstration of SiV-phonon coupling through modulation of the SiV’s optical transitions or direct coupling to its spin degree of freedom.
