An Analysis of Immersive Structure and Improvement Method of XR-Based Immersive Experience Exhibition
This study explores how XR-based immersive exhibitions construct audience engagement and identifies their structural characteristics and implications. First, it reviews the concept of "Immersion" and extracts key immersive elements from prior research. Based on this, a flowchart is developed to visualize the immersive experience as a sequential transition from sensory stimuli to psychological absorption and relational connection. The model includes stages of sensory engagement, cognitive engrossment, behavioral immersion, and relational conclusion. Focusing on XR exhibitions in South Korea from 2023 to 2024, the study analyzes diverse exhibition types and includes surveys and interviews with five experts. Results show that while XR technologies can deepen engagement beyond passive viewing, low usability or unnatural interaction can reduce satisfaction. It also finds that strong early-stage impressions enhance overall immersion, supporting the use of the "peak-end rule" in design. The study expands existing theories in the context of XR and offers a practical framework for future immersive exhibition planning.
