An Analysis of Physical Education in Air Force Academy

The Korea Air Force Academy(KAFA) is a military institution dedicated to developing elite officers. This study aimed to explore the values that cadets experience through physical education at KAFA by employing a phenomenological qualitative research approach. In-depth interviews were conducted with 9 recent graduates to gather detailed insights into their lived experiences. Thematic analysis of the data revealed four core themes. First, the beginning of new challenges and physical activity. Second, a venue for holistic education. Third, physical education as a lifelong asset. Fourth, areas for improvement. Based on these findings, the study highlights several implications. There is a need to re-emphasize the value of physical education within an increasingly technology-oriented military environment. Efforts should also be made to promote cadet-centered practices that ensure autonomy and motivation, improve educational infrastructure and faculty-student ratios, and optimize training schedules to enhance the effectiveness of both physical education and overall cadet well-being. Additionally, credits and class hours need to be supplemented.
