Validation Study of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10 : Focusing on High School Baseball Players
This study validated the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), a representative measure of resilience, in a sample of high school baseball players. The goal was to establish a validated measurement scale that can be consistently utilized in future resilience research involving athletes. We collected data from 382 high school baseball players in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Busan and Gwangju using purposive sampling. We conducted confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) to evaluate the factor structure of three versions of the CD-RISC: the five-factor 25-item version, the single-factor 25-item version, and the single-factor 10-item version. Additionally, correlations with social support, closely related to resilience, were examined. The CFA results indicated that the single-factor 10-item version (CD-RISC-10) demonstrated superior model fit compared to the other versions (RMSEA=.062, CFI=.937, TLI=.919, Cronbach’s alpha=813). This study provides a validated and reliable resilience scale expected to serve as an effective measure for resilience assessment in future research and practical applications involving athletes. With its brevity and strong measurement properties, the CD-RISC-10 enables quick, repeated assessments in high-pressure athletic settings without burdening athletes, while also allowing for integration into sport psychology practice. However, as this study involved only high school baseball players, caution is warranted in generalizing the findings, and further validation across diverse athletic populations is recommended.
