The relationship between achievement motivation and athletic persistence of Chinese college volleyball players: the mediating effect of group cohesiveness and the crude mediating effect of gender

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of achievement motivation of Chinese university volleyball players on exercise continuity, and to investigate the mediating effect of group cohesion in the relationship between achievement motivation and exercise continuity. To this end, a survey was conducted on university volleyball players and 270 copies were used as the final analysis data. For data analysis, the verification results through data analysis using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS macro ver. 4.2 are as follows. First, it had a positive effect on the achievement motivation and exercise speed of Chinese university volleyball players, and specifically, the failure avoidance factor of achievement motivation had a significant effect on the sub-factors of group cohesion, group social cohesion, individual task cohesion, and group task cohesion, and the factor of approaching success was found to have a significant effect on the factor of individual task cohesion. Second, it was found that the achievement motivation of university basketball players had a positive effect on the exercise continuity, and the failure avoidance factor of achievement motivation had a significant effect on the tendency, possibility, and reinforcement of exercise continuity, which are sub-factors of exercise continuity. Third, it was found to play a mediating role in the relationship between the motivation and exercise continuity of Chinese university volleyball players. The lower the achievement motivation, the higher the level of group cohesiveness.
