ANTIOXIDANT THERAPY FOR FOLATE DEFICIENCY ANEMIA
olate deficiency anemia is a complex of clinical and hematological manifestations caused by folic acid deficiency due to its limited intake, decreased absorption, or increased consumption. Anemia caused by a deficiency of folic acid, also called vitamin B9, is a blood disease characterized by a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin and red blood cells (red blood cells). Folic acid is a natural vitamin that is essential for normal hematopoiesis. Under normal conditions, it is synthesized by the intestinal microflora and enters the body as folate from plant foods (legumes, coarse flour, asparagus, spinach, lettuce leaves, broccoli, beef liver). Folic acid is present in the body in the form of its coenzyme form, tetrahydrofolic acid, which is actively involved in the synthesis of glutamic acid, pyrimidine and purine bases, as well as thymidine monophosphate– a component of DNA. With folate deficiency anemia, first of all, the synthesis of nucleic acids of actively dividing hematopoietic cells is disrupted, resulting in anemia, often combined with leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. Materials and Methods: Comparative analyses were conducted between patients with folate deficiency anemia and patients with other pathology of the hematopoietic system, and the effectiveness of antioxidant therapy was evaluated. Results: Lipid peroxidation is impaired in patients with folate deficiency anemia. Antioxidant therapy for folate deficiency anemia increases the effectiveness of treatment. Results: In patients with folate deficiency anemia, lipid peroxidation is impaired. Antioxidant therapy for folate deficiency anemia increases the effectiveness of treatment. Discussions: Antioxidant therapy increases the effectiveness of treatment for folate deficiency anemia. Timely and adequately prescribed therapy makes it possible for patients to fully recover.
