THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF POLYPHENOLS IN BRONCHOPULMONARY PATHOLOGY: DATA FROM PRECLINICAL STUDIES AND THE POSSIBILITY OF TRANSITION TO CLINICAL STUDIES

Respiratory diseases are one of the leading causes of global mortality and disability, which underscores the need to develop effective methods for their prevention and treatment. This article discusses the potential pharmacotherapeutic properties of natural polyphenols with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity as promising agents for the treatment of lung diseases. Aim: The main purpose of this review is to evaluate the possibilities of using polyphenols for the treatment of respiratory diseases, as well as to analyze the prospects for their introduction into clinical practice. Search strategy. In preparing this review, the following phrases were used for the search: "respiratory diseases, natural polyphenols, antioxidant activity" to search in Russian-language literature, and used such search phrases when searching for literature in the PubMed database of "evidence-based medicine" as: "respiratory diseases", "antioxidant activity", "polyphenols". During the literary search, the authors selected 59 sources. Conclusion: Modern pharmacotherapeutic approaches to the treatment of chronic inflammatory lung diseases are insufficient, which underscores the need to develop new methods such as the use of polyphenols. These natural compounds have a high potential to improve the condition of patients due to their unique properties.
