Survey And Implementation of Cleaner Production Opportunities in the Production Process of a Feed Factory in Western Santa Catarina
Introduction: In the Western region of Santa Catarina, the growth of feed production, driven by partnerships among producers, companies, and cooperatives, highlights the need for continuous improvements and the implementation of Cleaner Production to optimize the industrial sector. Objective: To identify and implement Cleaner Production opportunities in a feed mill, aiming to reduce waste generation, optimize resource use, and promote improvements in the environmental, economic, and operational aspects of the production process. Theoretical Framework: Cleaner Production is a preventive strategy focused on waste reduction and resource optimization in industrial processes, strengthening sustainability and competitiveness. Method: An exploratory qualitative research was conducted through a case study, with data collected by observations, brainstorming sessions, process flowcharting, and site visits to identify Cleaner Production opportunities. Results and Discussion: Nine opportunities for applying Cleaner Production were identified, including reducing water waste, decreasing packaging damage, and reusing big bags. Research Implications: The implementation of Cleaner Production proved effective in reducing costs, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening the sustainability culture within the feed industry. Originality/Value: This study highlights the application of Cleaner Production in the feed industry, evidencing operational and environmental improvements and reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices.
