Analysis of the Physical and Chemical Parameters of the Waters of the Caeté River Basin

Objective: The objective is to standardize water collection based on location and depth specifications in the Caeté River Basin, conduct measurements of physical and chemical variables in situ and in the laboratory, and evaluate the behavior of these variables through statistical analysis. Theoretical Framework: The study establishes watershed research, water quality with physical and chemical analysis, and standards established in CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. Method: The Caeté River Basin covers an area of 2,141.96 km2, with a 149 km main river length, draining part of six municipalities in the state of Pará. There are 11 water collection and measurement points, with 22 specifications based on location and depth, to measure 14 physical and chemical variables on 22 dates. The measurements used are Van Dorn bottles, Becker bottles, plastic bottles, a multiparameter probe, a turbidimeter, and a colorimeter. Results and Discussion: The study revealed greater variations in measurements taken with surface water compared to those taken at depths of 1.00 m and 1.50 m. The Biplot reinforces the results obtained in the correlation analysis, identifying the largest and smallest positive and negative relationships between variables. Cluster analysis revealed the formation of similar groups associated with measurement specifications in relation to the set of measured variables. Research Implications: The knowledge generated and the standardized collection structure in the study of the River Basin play a crucial role in the environmental balance and harmony of the planet, given that environmental impacts affect the water cycle and climate. Originality/Value: Water monitoring, responsible for unprecedented results, spanned a year of on-site research, in addition to the large area covered by the study.
