Smart Residential Energy Management: Evaluating Seasonal and Tariff Impacts on Battery Aging

Battery aging significantly influences the economic viability and operational efficiency of smart residential energy management systems, particularly under varying seasonal and tariff conditions. This paper evaluates the impact of seasonal variations and electricity tariff structures on battery aging within smart residential energy management systems. A sensitivity analysis was conducted using simulation scenarios representing one typical summer day and one winter day, each evaluated under three tariff schemes: flat, double-rate, and triple-rate. Results highlight variations in battery aging influenced by tariff structures and seasonal profiles. Battery usage reduces energy costs more effectively in summer, with imported energy costs up to 79% lower than in winter. The findings provide valuable insights into the need for seasonal energy management strategies, adjusting battery operation according to the time of year to optimize both costs and battery life.
