Optimal Siting and Sizing of Electric Vehicles Charging Stations in a Logistic Network

In the last decade, special attention has been paid to electric vehicles and renewable resources to reduce pollutant emissions. Road transport (particularly regarding heavier, long-haul vehicles) is the sector that is required to make the greatest effort to achieve the ambitious decarbonization targets, and managers of fleets are currently planning to convert, partially or totally, their vehicles with electric or hybrid systems. In this paper, we propose a new approach for the location and sizing of charging stations in a logistics network served by heavy trucks. Logistic data from an optimal route planner are used to optimally size and locate charging stations above customers and in the depot. The proposed approach has been tested over a year using data from a real case study in Northern Italy.
