BIM-Python synergy for energy analysis
The construction sector plays a crucial economic and social role globally, however it has a significant environmental impact and contributes significantly to the climate crisis. In order to reduce energy consumption and polluting emissions caused by the construction sector, many regulatory measures have been issued regarding sustainability and energy efficiency, both nationally and internationally. A fundamental role in energy consumption is played by the building envelope, which, if appropriately designed, allows a drastic reduction in heat loss and therefore energy consumption for heating and cooling. The evaluation of the thermal transmission of the envelope components is therefore an essential operation to determine the energy performance of a building. To this end, innovative technologies, such as BIM and the Python programming language, increasingly used thanks to the digital transition, can enable the automation of energy diagnosis processes and speed up the evaluation of energy performance. In particular, the following study proposes an application that aims to enhance the potential of these technologies in order to develop a decision support tool in the design process of energy retrofit intervention.
