An analysis of modeling battery storage system ramping effect and their impact on operational costs of residential houses
The integration of battery storage systems in residential houses has emerged as a key strategy for enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. These systems enable homeowners to store excess energy generated from renewable sources, such as solar panels, or to take advantage of lower electricity rates during off-peak hours. However, the ramping effect (defined as the fluctuation in energy discharge and charge rates) can significantly impact on the overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness of these systems. This paper develops a model to analyze the ramping effect of battery storage systems and its subsequent influence on the operational costs of residential houses. Through a series of simulations based on real-world energy consumption and pricing data, the study quantifies how variations in ramping behavior affect energy cost savings. By offering a detailed examination of the ramping effect, this research fills an important gap in literature, addressing a crucial but often overlooked factor in the economic feasibility of residential battery storage solutions.
