Model of Energy Transfer within the Shell Layer of Core–Shell Nanoparticle

The analytical model and numerical calculations of donor fluorescence decay in the presence of energy transfer are presented for acceptors distributed within the shell of a nanoparticle. Cases involving both single and multiple donors are considered, with the donors either attached to the shell surface or embedded within the shell layer. The model predicts a much faster fluorescence intensity decay than in the case of surface distribution of fluorophores with the same molecular density in the Förster case. This new theoretical description of FRET can be used to design broadband luminescence core–shell nanostructures with a greater number of fluorophores compared to structures relying exclusively on surface-distributed fluorophores.
