Complete Recovery with Medical Management in a Young Male with Biopsy-Proven Cerebral Toxoplasmosis
A 39-year gentleman presented to various neurosurgery clinics for the treatment of a deep parietal contrast-enhancing tumour in August 2023.His stereotactic biopsy was performed elsewhere, which did not reveal any specific pathology. The authors performed a transsylvian biopsy, which showed toxoplasma cysts.Subsequent testing for HIV turned out to be positive; he was not known to have HIV infection before. He was managed in combined care with an infectious disease (ID) specialist, using a combination of Trimethoprim--Sulfamethoxazole and Clindamycin along with Lamivudine-Tenofovir-Disoproxil Fumarate (LTD) (HAART), steroids, and anti-epileptics.He showed complete disease resolution on a 3-month MRI scan and clinical recovery.
