Nursing of a patient with facial neuritis treated by thunder-fire moxibustion combined with stepwise facial muscles training based on the theory of Treating Flaccidity Only Taking Yangming Meridians

This paper summarizes the nursing experience of treating a case of Koupi (facial paralysis) with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)-characteristic therapy combined with stepwise facial muscles training based on the theory of Treating Flaccidity Only Taking Yangming Meridians. Nurses had comprehensively assessed the potential risks in nursing of the patient. Based on the theory of TCM syndrome differentiation, the thunder-fire moxibustion along meridians was adopted at acute attack phase, and a stepwise facial muscles training was conducted at convalescence. Integrative nursing interventions based on the theory of Treating Flaccidity Only Taking Yangming Meridians helps to relieve the facial movement disorder and other symptoms caused by facial neuritis.
