Modeling the processes of FPV UAV utilization for conducting successful defensive operations by units of the National Guard of Ukraine

The article examines models of FPV-type UAV utilization processes for successful planning and conduct of operations (combat actions), taking into account the experience of conducting defensive combat operations in military training. This approach allows for improving the individual proficiency of servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) and enhancing the overall combat coordination of the unit. Based on simulations of three defensive operation scenarios, the authors identify positive and negative factors and provide practical recommendations to NGU unit commanders regarding the effective use of FPV UAVs for successful planning and execution of defensive operations. The authors of the article propose that the main recommendations for commanders of the National Guard of Ukraine units, developed on the basis of modeling the processes of FPV UAV employment for conducting successful defensive operations, should include the following: firstly, maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of the terrain along the front and flanks by duty fire assets and observation posts; secondly, enhancing reconnaissance, particularly under conditions of reduced visibility in areas unfavorable for visual observation, while conducting continuous aerial reconnaissance and remote mining using UAVs; thirdly, considering the likely movement routes of the adversary towards the forward line, timely and covertly organizing mine-explosive and non-explosive obstacles along these routes; fourthly, adhering strictly to instructions on coordination between reconnaissance units, artillery, and fire support assets (including UAVs) to ensure rapid response to detected threats; fifthly, employing combined fire strikes to divide and reduce the effectiveness of enemy forces; sixthly, effectively utilizing crew-served weapons (machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars); seventhly, motivating personnel to engage in active operations by disseminating positive examples from combat experience in conducting defensive actions of our forces; eighthly, conducting regular training of personnel in repelling enemy offensive actions; ninthly, enhancing the electronic warfare (EW) capabilities of units across all directions, particularly in areas of the enemy’s main assault. The authors of the article conclude that an important aspect of employing FPV-type UAVs for conducting successful defensive operations by the units of the National Guard of Ukraine is the systematic analysis of combat actions. Such analysis enables the development of recommendations and, subsequently, the effective utilization of combat experience through the identification and implementation of specific measures.
