Transition from the classifier of topographic information to the feature catalogue of the topographic database specification

The purpose of this paper is to summarise the practical experience of creating a catalogue of objects for the specification of core reference data to ensure the intellectual level of data in NSDI and their integration with thematic sets. The use of core reference data is one of the main aspects of sustainable development of the economy, environment and social infrastructure of Ukraine in the post-war period. Methodology. The topographic database of the Main State Topographic Map was created using the model-driven architecture methodology and on the principle of a database of permanent use and operation. The conceptual model of the TDB is presented in the form of an application diagram using the Unified Modelling Language (UML) regardless of the specific database implementation environment. Implementation schemes for various methods (e.g., relational or object-relational database, XML-file transfer, web services) and implementation environments were derived mostly automatically from the formal description of the application diagram. Changes in the information requirements were made to the application schema, not directly to the implementation. Within the framework of the Ukrainian-Norwegian project, it is extremely important to develop the Specification “Topographic Database at 1:50 000 scale” to ensure the use of the model-driven architecture methodology. Results. The paper describes the development of the Catalogue of objects and their attributes of the Specification of the Main State Topographic Map, taking into account the principles of its creation, provisions of international and national standards, with the aim of replacing the Classifier of information displayed on topographic maps. The applied scheme and catalogue of TDB objects contains the described types of topographic objects, their attributes, associations and restrictions, limitations and rules of topological consistency of geometric elements of vector models of objects for one or more types of topographic objects. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the proposed approach to the unification of basic geospatial data, namely the transition from the Classifier of topographic information displayed on topographic maps to the Feature Catalogue and their attributes of the topographic database. The practical significance of the research lies in the further use of the developed Feature Catalogue and their attributes of the Main State Topographic Map Specification as a model for the specifications of basic and thematic geospatial data, which will ensure the unification of the structure and content of geospatial databases, improve the quality and interoperability of these data for reuse by other users in NSDI.
