Optical design automation using aberration constraints and graphical sliders

Several optical design approaches using constrained aberration equations for automatic aberration correction are discussed and shown. These include the trivial “paraxial image solve” approach placing a constraint on image location, to the more complex higher-order correction of systems constraining construction parameters such as curvatures and thicknesses. Several examples of real time correction with graphical sliders are demonstrated using various optical design software packages.

Abstract

Several optical design approaches using constrained aberration equations for automatic aberration correction are discussed and shown. These include the trivial “paraxial image solve” approach placing a constraint on image location, to the more complex higher-order correction of systems constraining construction parameters such as curvatures and thicknesses. Several examples of real time correction with graphical sliders are demonstrated using various optical design software packages.
