POTÊNCIAL ECONÔMICO DA PRODUÇÃO DE PEIXES ORNAMENTAIS NO BRASIL
The objective of the research was to identify and compile existing information on the production of ornamental fish in Brazil, evaluating the economic importance, challenges faced, legal aspects of production and, through market analysis and preparation of the SWOT Matrix, evaluate the current state of demand and prospects. The procedure used was data collection, through a literature review on websites and magazines specializing in the subject. It was found that factors such as the rich biodiversity of species (neon-cardinal, plecos, tetras, among others), favorable climatic conditions and production infrastructure contribute to the success of ornamental fish production in Brazil, an activity that has demonstrated significant economic potential. It is noteworthy that the ornamental aquarium and fish for pet animal sectors have experienced constant growth, driven by national and international demand, which also favors the development of the activity in the country, mainly focused on the cultivation of fish in controlled systems based on animal welfare. It is concluded that, although there have been weaknesses and threats, the production of ornamental fish represents a strategic opportunity for local economic development, job creation and technological innovation.
