A Server to Support a Fire Warning System for Car Drivers

Forest fires have hit several countries and are likely to get worse, mainly due to climate change. The recent event in Los Angeles is an example. Emergency systems are still unable to prevent dramatic consequences for the population in time. In this article, we propose a contribution to a solution. We describe a server that receives the indication of a forest fire automatically detected by an optical fiber sensor and determine the alert information to be delivered to the vehicles radio receivers. The server is able to communicate this information to FM radio stations covering the area near the location of the fire, which send the alarm message to all car drivers nearby.

Abstract

Forest fires have hit several countries and are likely to get worse, mainly due to climate change. The recent event in Los Angeles is an example. Emergency systems are still unable to prevent dramatic consequences for the population in time. In this article, we propose a contribution to a solution. We describe a server that receives the indication of a forest fire automatically detected by an optical fiber sensor and determine the alert information to be delivered to the vehicles radio receivers. The server is able to communicate this information to FM radio stations covering the area near the location of the fire, which send the alarm message to all car drivers nearby.
