Visible Light Communication for Autonomous Mobile Platform: Evaluation of 16-QAM Transmission System

Visible Light Communication (VLC) has gained popularity and aroused interest in recent years, due to its high-speed data transmission capacity, unlicensed spectrum, and the possibility of using existing infrastructures. This work explores an alternative to implement the mentioned technology using general purpose hardware, with the aim of building a complete and integrated system transmission for (Internet of Things) IoT applications. To guarantee the integrity of transmitted data, the entire system uses a logistic map encryption method. Preliminary results indicate that transmission with error rates below the Forward Error Correction (FEC) threshold can be achieved using 16-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) technique in different scenarios, at a rate of 500 Baud and distances up to 2 meters. As a second analysis, experiments were also carried out on transmission with an intermediate central unit between the transmitter and receiver modules.
