Consumer technologies for repair services: the role of technology openness and repair control
Product repair, aiming at restoring product functionalities, supports the reduction of waste and the efficient management of resources. However, to achieve widespread adoption of repair practices by consumers, organizations must adapt their business models and strategies. The work investigates technology-enabled repair services through an examination of the technology openness and the control over the repair activities. Six approaches are proposed, leveraging consumers’ technologies, that companies can adopt to foster repair behaviours among consumers.
